Tess Lea’s book, Darwin, first published in 2014, is to be re-issued as a paperback. She has an opportunity to write a short update on what has happened in the interim five years. Is this a story about boom and bust? Another chapter in Darwin’s long story of survival? What do Darwinites know that the rest of the world should hear?
Tess wants to help bring to the foreground discussions circulating within Darwin communities, as she thinks about what Darwin was, is, might become.
This event will have a question and answer style format. If you have any questions or thoughts that you’d like Tess to think about in advance, please send them to darwinredux@gmail.com by 30 August. The generation of random thoughts and spontaneous discussion on the night is also encouraged!
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Tess Lea is a born and bred Darwinite, now working as an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney’s Department of Gender and Cultural Studies. An anthropologist whose work spans human-other relations, settler colonialism, organisational ethnography, policy imaginaries, and the social worlds of regional and remote Australia; she also works in partnership with the NGO Healthabitat on ways to improve Indigenous public housing and health.
